May 3rd of each year is the Dia de las Cruz, when the contractors take a cross to church and have it blessed by the priest then erect it on each of their jobsites. It is a special fiesta for the workers and a day that also reminds us how blessed we are to have their dedication, hard work and incredible artistic skills working for us.

The entrance with its new set of temporary construction gates. This will enable us to have all trucks use this provisional entry point during construction of the homes.

This photo shows a wider view of the entrance with its new paint job.

This photo shows a close-up of the iron gates. Bill couldn't resist his temptation to have the welders add three hammered steel "buttons" to each hinge to make them appear like they are screws.

The bathroom door in the office shows the artistry of our carpenters. It is made from solid Perota, one of the three tropical hardwoods that termites will not touch. The beautiful, almost Walnut grain of this wood will be featured in our homes too.

Two stationary side-lights of Perota have been installed on the entry to the office.

The giant Perota entry doors with stationary round top panels were installed today. This one leads into the office.

Javier Santos works on the pair of French doors that will be the main entry into the office.

Another giant Perota door leads into the pedestrian entrance to the right of the iron gates. If you're going out for a walk, this will be the door you use.

The decorative iron balcony railing awaits installation and painting. This will be installed on the balcony that projects out over the office entry doors.

It's May and we know the rains are coming. Workers begin construction on one of three rain gutters that will control rainwater run off. Lou discusses the work with David, the project engineer.

A different view of scaffolding, slightly askew and the daring workmen as they build the gutter system.

Here is another of the three new gutters that will handle rainwater run off between lots 3 and 4

Even in May, our driest month of the year, when we haven't had rain for almost 6 months, a native spring stays wet and keeps the hillside moist.

This photo shows a different view of the rain gutter between lots 14 and 15 as construction starts and works its way downhill.

The bell tower concrete work is almost complete. The Cantera should arrive this next week and the bottom portion (widest part) will be tiled in the same color Cantera as the entry fountain.

The masons did a beautiful job on the delicate moldings and arches.
  • Buena Vista - Gallery 5: 051007 22

This photograph shows lot 13, where the huge piece of Granite used to be. Now leveled out, you can also see the round cut in the road around the bell tower where landscaping will go.

  • Buena Vista - Gallery 5: 051007 23

The stairway to the observation level of the bell tower is ready for hand rails and paint.

  • Buena Vista - Gallery 5: 051007 24

This view of the bell tower shows the scale of the structure. Note the size of the workman standing in the entrance opening.

The propane gas tank for the entry structure has been installed.

Workmen build a weather shelter for the newly installed entry area landscape sprinkler system equipment.

  • Buena Vista - Gallery 5: 051007 27
Time lapse shows the shelter almost completed.

The main electrical panel in the office and the three wall mounted timers will control the fountain, entry lights and street lighting.

  • Buena Vista - Gallery 5: 051007 29

We know we're getting close when we see water start to come out of the sprinkler heads. The installers purge air from the system. Soon we should be able to start installation of our established plants outside the gates and inside around the office and fountain areas.
