This photo shows the cul-de-sac at the end of Privada Sanctuario and looks directly toward lot #8. The large section of gray rock (on the left) will be removed this week, as we get ready to start building on lots 7 & 9.

This is another view of the section of rock and earth that will be removed to about where the people are standing in this photo. The Edgar's new home will sit to the left and beyond the people in the photo

Mornings in Morelia always start with a big breakfast with Jose Cacho at his beautiful Quinta Torcasas bed & breakfast. Plans for the day trips all start here.

  • Buena Vista Manzanillo: 16

Lou chooses some local basketry at a roadside stop in a small village. The baskets will be used to decorate the Buena Vista office wall..

  • Buena Vista Manzanillo: 17

Downtown Morelia is a Colonial gem. Bill takes advantage of the opportunity to snap as many photos as possible of all the beautiful architecture and building details. You'll no doubt see some of these designs on the homes in Buena Vista.

  • Buena Vista Manzanillo: 18

Bill negotiates with an herbalist to purchase four tiny native orchid plants at the Saturday market in Patzcuaro. You could also buy herbs to cure almost any ailment from this same Indian woman.

  • Buena Vista Manzanillo: 19

Blocks of carved Cantera stone in Tzintzunzan, a tiny village along the lake at Patzcuaro.

  • Buena Vista Manzanillo: 21

Our friends, Karen and Angie from North Carolina enjoyed the adventure too. They even ran into other North Carolinians who have now made Morelia their retirement home.

  • Buena Vista Manzanillo: 22
Lou & Bill take a break. The cathedral and downtown skyline of Morelia is behind them.
  • Buena Vista Manzanillo: 23

Angie snapped this incredible photo of the 17th century cathedral in downtown Morelia. Each Friday and Saturday evening at dusk, visitors are treated to a real show. Classical music plays as the cathedral is slowly lighted and coordinated with a well-timed fireworks display.

  • Buena Vista Manzanillo: 24
    Another wonderful photo by Angie.

Lou's angel quest led to the lobby of the Villa Montana, a wonderful hotel next door to Quinta Torcasas where we stay. The owners of the hotel bought over this wood statue from France.

  • Buena Vista Manzanillo: 26

Jose and a helper unload the beautiful hand-carved copy by a master craftsman from Delores Hidalgo.

  • Buena Vista Manzanillo: 27

Placed in our room for approval, the angel's next stop will be our foyer table in our home in Manzanillo

Another wonderful discovery on our way home.a huge forge in Tonala for custom light fixtures, chandeliers, furniture and almost anything you can imagine made from metal or wood.

  • Buena Vista Manzanillo: 30

This Mesquite wood entertainment center will be finished in a medium stain and delivered to our place too.

  • Buena Vista Manzanillo: 31

Mesquite wood chairs, soon to sport cowhide seats and will be used in our library with a writing desk after a brief stint at the Buena Vista office.

Annie missed us, but wasn't letting the warmer weather get her down. She goes for an afternoon swim quite often and sometimes just sits on a bench in the pool to cool off.

  • Buena Vista Manzanillo: 35

Extensive erosion control measures are being taken on the Buena Vista hillside in front of the Vida del Mar offices before the summer rains begin. This photo shows the high-tech Multi-Mat 100 three-layer fabric being attached to the hillside.

30 cm of top-soil are used to cover the synthetic Multi-Mat 100 fabric. The next step is covering the topsoil and fabric with St. Augustine sod.

Two truck-loads of large coconut palms arrived at the site.
  • Buena Vista Manzanillo: 43

These 20 year old palms, all ten of them, will be installed in the entrance area and in the fountain area inside the gates of Buena Vista.

  • Buena Vista Manzanillo: 44

Even with their root balls cut small, the trees are very heavy and difficult to unload and plant.

  • Buena Vista Manzanillo: 45

The first two trees are standing near the sign on the outside of the gates. The temporary construction gates can be seen in the background.

  • Buena Vista Manzanillo: 46

The right side of the entrance gets three coconut palms and some smaller Areca palms.

  • Buena Vista Manzanillo: 47

The hard edges of the entry building slowly start to retreat behind the major new plantings.

  • Buena Vista Manzanillo: 48

Workers start to place the Cicus vines and yellow Mandeville vines along the outer face of the entrance walls. Eventually the yellow walls will be completely covered in green vines and yellow flowers.

  • Buena Vista Manzanillo: 49

Five of the ten new palms are inside the gates, around the fountain area.
  • Buena Vista Manzanillo: 51

Workmen get ready to plant three African Tulip trees in an area behind the fountain. These beautiful trees sport brilliant orange flowers at this time. And will become very large, beautifully shaped shade trees in a few more years.

  • Buena Vista Manzanillo: 52

15 large Ficus trees are planted along the cyclone fencing that separates Buena Vista from one of the parking lots at Vida del Mar. By next year this will be a solid wall of green.

  • Buena Vista Manzanillo: 53

The yellow Mandeville and a beautiful, low ground cover with tiny blue flowers await installation in the beds outside our gates.

  • Buena Vista Manzanillo: 54

This week, this sloping area will receive St. Augustine sod and more flowering trees as well as some Lime trees and bananas.

  • Buena Vista Manzanillo: 55

Looking back toward the gates and fountain from lot #1 you can start to get a feel for how lush the inside areas of Buena Vista will become.

  • Buena Vista Manzanillo: 56
The fountain is now framed by three beautiful, big coconut palms.
  • Buena Vista Manzanillo: 57
Another view of the entrance from outside the gates.
  • Buena Vista Manzanillo: 58

This week's last picture is of the rock removal process on lot #8. Notice the white mark on the hillside at the top. All the material to the left of the white mark will be removed and taken down to street level by the pneumatic rock chisel on the backhoe.
