The workers have reached ceiling height in the top floor master bedroom suite. You can also see the back row of high clerestory windows that run across both side of the living and dining area in this home.

Villa Estancia’s flat roof sections have been completed and you can see the ends of the high clerestory peaked roof behind the garage. On the left you can see the dome of the completed brick boveda ceiling in bedroom #3, and the start of the large brick boveda dome that will be over the library in this home. The special terracotta bricks used by the boveda builders are stacked in the garage.

Almost defying gravity, none of us can figure out what keeps the bricks in place while the mortar is wet. This is a true art and craft. There are very few Boveda Maestros in Mexico and their workmanship is highly prized and a sign of a high quality home.

Villa Bahia Vista’s middle bedroom suite is ready to have it’s concrete floor poured.

  • BV PG 060408 09

You can see the plumbing lines being installed in the bathroom floor. The wood forms support the heavy grid of steel rebar. Where you see the boards missing, are places where large structural contra-trave or horizontal concrete and steel structural beams are formed. All of this will be poured at the same time, tying the structural support beams and actual floor steel and concrete together in one very strong piece.

The hillside along the outside of the new concrete retaining wall receives additional concrete protection from rainwater erosion. A new “cuneta” or drainage runway is being created to carry run-off and protect the landscaping and hillside.

There are many species of native Mexican orchids. This tiny green and purple gem has decided it’s time to put on its annual display. The plant has many stocks of individual flower sprays. While not as showy as some of the larger orchid species, the flowers are amazing.

One of the most wonderful rooms in Villa Estancia is the library, so nothing less than a spectacular, huge brick boveda domed ceiling would fit such a great room. Notice the detail in the ceiling. The Mexican craftsmen are truly masters of this rare and highly prized art form.
